I’d just like to thank Patty Jenkins for making a DCIThoughtSheWasWithUniverse movie that wasn’t fucking garbage.

If I’m being completely honest, the two people I went to the cinema to watch _Wonder Woman_ with and I did spend the next two hours after coming out of our screening discussing the various problems with the movie, but we also all agreed on one thing: We still loved it.

Maybe it’s just the rose-coloured glasses of comparison, but I had an excellent time with _Wonder Woman_, and I’m excited to go back to the cinema and watch it, at least one more time.

It’s the first time I’ve said that about a DC movie since _The Dark Knight Rises_.

_Final rating:★★★½ – I strongly recommend you make the time._
**The First Great DCEU Film**

This film is the origin story of Diana Prince/Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), who was first introduced in Batman v. Superman last year. She is born and trained on Themyscira, the hidden island where the powerful warrior women known as the Amazons live. One day, Steve Trevor (Chris Pine), an American World War I spy, crashes off the coast of Themyscira and is rescued by Diana and the two team up to take down Ares, the God of War, and the Germans, who are developing a very deadly form of mustard gas. There are fantastic action sequences in this film, especially by Gal Gadot. It’s amazing to see her single-handedly storm the German front, inspiring the Allies to fight with her. Gadot takes over from the legendary Linda Carter and makes the role her own. She has great chemistry with Pine. They are complete equals in this film. It’s refreshing to see the female lead in a superhero film not be the love interest. The only negative part of the film are the lackluster villains. Hopefully, Wonder Woman will have more formidable foes in future films.
**DC Hits A…Bunt. But compared to the strikeouts, a bunt seems impressive.**

Wonder Woman had some things working for it–things other comic book movies have faltered on. But it had a lot of things not working for it too. The result is an average median between what works and what doesn’t. While the film is spectacular within the struggling DCEU, as a stand alone film it’s mediocre at best.

Diana’s origin story–how she came to be and how she came to be a super hero was refreshing. It showcased the world of the Amazon warriors. It was unique in the often cookie-cutter super hero origin stories. Patty Jenkins did a good job of framing it, but I think the character’s origin story dating back to the comics has always been unique in comparison to other super heroes.

The result is that the first third or so of the movie is satisfying–despite dull performances from Gal Gadot and Chris Pine (who had zero chemistry as a couple). But once we leave the confines of the island and enter the real world, the movie becomes hit or miss. WWI (that’s right, WWI now, not WWII. The reason for the change in setting is never apparent) London is portrayed in a way that is almost a distraction. Yes, the world isn’t white washed; diversity is a thing–a wonderful thing at that. But DC’s version of Captain America’s Howling Commandos consist of an Arab and an American Indian. Diversity for diversity’s sake becomes distracting–especially when paired with a low-rent Simon Pegg whose soul function is being a deadly sniper who never fires his weapon (that’s helpful on a top-secret mission behind enemy lines).

It’s almost as if the movie telegraphs all of these unnecessary plot hiccups to remind you that this is a super hero film, and no matter how much the mortal humans fail, it will all be okay because the super hero will save the day.

The dialogue can be clichéd at times, and the final theme of the movie–one of love conquering all and the acknowledgement that, overall, mankind is good, is laughable in it’s amateur preachiness.

But what the film lacks in substance and script, it makes up for in the visuals. I found the action sequences to be great fun. Heavily stylized “Matrix-style” fight scenes seem right at home in a film about super hero Gods. The freeze frames worked too–as fight sequences froze in over-the-top super hero poses that harkened back to the source material’s comic book roots.

The final confrontation between Wonder Woman and Ares–while dragging on a little long–was well done, being one of the few super hero movie climaxes that delivered.

While aspects of the movie were so similar (Hell! Identical!) to Captain America: The First Avenger, I actually felt embarrassed for the filmmakers, I did come away thinking this was the movie Captain America should have been. It succeeded in places where Captain America failed miserably.

The movie is entertainment–pure, fun, pop-corn-gobbling entertainment. In that realm, it succeeds and succeeds well. But as a piece of cinematic art, it falls flat on its face with too many plot holes, script inconsistencies, clichés and mediocre acting. Wonder Woman will be an important movie for both the DCEU and the summer of 2017. But it lacks the magic and staying power of Nolan and Donner’s contributions to DC comics’ films.
I like the portrayal of the Greek/Amazonian myth; the part where Chris Pine is naked; the part where Wonder Woman overturns the tank; and the post-battle dance scene with her and Steve Trevor, and that’s it.

This could be mistaken for a mediocre, melodramatic, cheesy TV movie. Visually, it’s less interesting than any of the other nu-DC fare; I never thought I’d miss Zach Snyder’s sensibility but I did in this flick. Storywise, it may be a step up from the rest of the DCEU, but it still barely rivals the worst of the Marvel movies. Gal Gadot can’t act, and Chris Pine couldn’t make the clunky dialogue sound not ridiculous.

Wonder Woman is tolerable. That’s more than can be said for the other nu-DC movies but it’s not a compliment.
I quite enjoyed this movie. When I learned that Zack Snyder had his fingers in it I got a worried since he recently wrote such atrocities as Batman vs Superman and sure enough the story is a really the weakest part of the movie. A typical nonsensical, unintelligent, Hollywood story/script were you are better off putting your brain in idle when watching it.

However it makes up for this with cool special effects and, surprisingly, quite enjoyable characters. This is definitely a movie that you watch for the sake of the special effects. Well, if you are a male teenager you might also be watching it to drool over Gal Gadot of course (I have to admit that she is hot).

There is not too much to say about the plot. Our Amazon hot chick discovers that there is a war going on and goes out to stop it. Since she has been overly protected by her guardian she is amazingly clueless about life outside of her little island. Especially aspects involving men. Something which creates some funny moments as well as some embarrassingly silly ones. This, Diana’s gradual evolution where she not only is learning about life but also discovers her considerable powers, is one of the enjoyable aspects of the movie though. It is of course also one of the dummer aspects of the movie. How the f… could the Amazon Queen race Diana to be so ignorant about everything?

Another not so enjoyable part of the movie is the ludicrous scenes where the britts are trying to obtain peace at all costs as well as the stereotypical portrayal of Ludendorff as some megalomaniacal, half crazy war-mongerer. This was just dumb. I guess Zac Snyder just picked the name out of some history book without bothering to read up on the character. Typical lack of intelligence and respect, a la Hollywood, for anything outside of their, very limited, sphere of knowledge.
Well, at least Danny Huston did a pretty decent job of the shitty role he was given. So did most of the rest of actors. I definitely liked Gal Gadot as Super Woman but then, although I am not a teenager, I am still a male so maybe I am biased when it comes to her?

I definitely liked the special effects. The showdown at the end was great as far as I am concerned and the rest not bad either. They could have been even better though if it would not have been so obvious that the Germans where mostly incompetent extras waiting for Wonder Woman to show off her gymnastics and slow motion abilities. Come on, even superhero special effects should make some pretense of being “realistic” superhero special effects.

The movie is definitely aimed at the young adult segment. Unfortunately it do not seem to know what it is aiming for. Sometimes it is almost adult, sometimes it is late teen and sometimes just so bloody TV-show silly that you’re wondering if it is aiming for even pre-teens.

Anyway, regardless of its faults I did enjoy my 2+ hour spent on this movie. Enough to give it a 4 out of 5 rating
**The Amazonian princess Diana’s quest-come-self-discovery!**

From all the superhero films, this was one of the most anticipated. Mainly because of the woman oriented theme. People were desperate to see the solo woman superhero. Today, we have the great visual effects technology, that anything can be possible to bring on to the screen. And actress like Gal Gadot, even better it gets. Yes, it was a wonderful film. A simple storyline, but a well made film.

The Amazonians who are cut off from the rest of the world, is preparing for the battle if Ares returns. All these years nothing has happened, but one day a fighter pilot crash on the cost of their island. Then the princess embark a journey back with him to find, and end the Ares threat forever. But she only ends up in the WWII, and what happens in the following sequence are the rest of the film.

Who would have done a better job than Patty Jenkins. She nailed it, and so set to direct the sequel too. Even the supporting cast was good. DC’s visuals always high standards and so this one. Action sequences too amazing. There’s lots of changes in the character, as well as in everything. Firstly a nice superhero costume. And connections like Diana’s father, the island, all pretty nicely written out. The DC universe just got extended. I can’t wait to see ‘Justice League’.

**8/10**
***Wonder Woman and Captain Steve Trevor seek to end WW1***

Near the end of WW1, an American spy (Chris Pine) is chased by Germans to the hidden island of Amazonian women created by Zeus to protect mankind. The princess of the island (Gal Gadot) leaves with the captain to help end the Great War and destroy Ares forever.

“Wonder Woman” (2017) combines the Wonder Woman TV series (1975-1979) with elements of “All Quiet on the Western Front” (1979), “Raiders of the Lost Ark” (1981), “The Dirty Dozen” (1967), “Captain America: The First Avenger” (2011) and “Man of Steel” (2013). It’s a well done modern superhero flick and superior to both “The First Avenger” and “Man of Steel.”

The opening paradisal island sequence is good without overstaying its welcome. The story really picks up when Captain Steve Trevor and Diana depart the island. They have great chemistry and their relationship adds human interest.

Unlike “Man of Steel,” which devolved into super-beings constantly pulverizing each other in the second half, “Wonder Woman” has the poise to take its time and establish an interesting assortment of characters. The entire midsection is great, but the last act, to be expected, comes down to two super-beings pounding each other. But at least the creators tried to add a weighty moral.

The film runs 2 hours, 21 minutes.

GRADE: B
I was wrong about Gal Gadot taking the role as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman since BvS. She was not bad.
Then this film, her standalone film, really brought emphasis on female empowerment.
Such a really nice one & Gal Gadot is the perfect Wonder Woman
I truly enjoyed Wonder Woman after Diana’s BvS intro with that amazing theme music.
I was disappointed Diana didn’t have the bullets and bracelets contest to return Steve to Man’s World.
Director Patty Jenkins must have watched Justice League the animated series because Diana stole her costume in that episode.
I read moviegoers review the 3rd act as a heavy CGI fest but but butt Diana’s a demi god fighting Ares, the God of War certainly they wouldn’t be mimicking a Saturday morning WWE wrestling match.
Traveling by ship instead of invisible plane was another missed opportunity to stay true to the CB.
The Themyscria healing waters was okay I would have liked the Purple Healing Ray – but but butt Director Patty Jenkins kept with the au naturel order of Mother Earth no guns, no electricity, no meat/fish only fruits and vegetables honouring the harvest goddess.
10/10

Should you decide to visit your local cinema to take in a showing of Phantom Thread, Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest offbeat character study, you might want to make a bit more effort with your wardrobe than you’re accustomed to for such outings. After spending 130 minutes totally immersed in the world of 1950s high fashion, I felt like an utter rube walking out of the cinema in my jeans and hoody combo.

Phantom Thread is as immersive as cinema gets. From its opening sequence, which takes us inside the House of Woodcock, a London fashion house run in quietly tyrannical fashion by renowned dressmaker Reynolds Woodcock (Daniel Day Lewis), Anderson’s film dismisses any thoughts we might have of our own world of 2018. As we witness Reynolds go about his daily grooming routine it becomes clear we’re watching a movie about a perfectionist, one made by a perfectionist, and starring a perfectionist in what is reputedly his final acting role.

Set in his ways like a tree set in concrete, Reynolds knows what he likes, and he likes what he knows. As such, his relationships with the many admiring members of the opposite sex (the film is set at a time when no man was more attractive than one who made things; and if those things happened to make women feel beautiful, like Reynolds’ gowns, all the better) rarely get past the following morning’s breakfast, where idle chit chat and toast buttering irritate him to a laughably over the top degree.

It’s during breakfast away from home, in a small country café, that Reynolds meets Alma (Vicky Krieps), a pretty Eastern European waitress who is won over by his flirtatious charm and accepts his invitation for a dinner date. The relationship blooms quickly and Reynolds invites her into his home, teaching her the ways of his trade.

It doesn’t take long for Alma’s ways to begin annoying the fiercely independent and somewhat narcissistic Reynolds, and her presence begins to disrupt his work – she’s become an anti-muse! Reynolds’ assumption that she will follow the other women in his past and leave quietly once exposed to his spoilt brat boorishness couldn’t be more wrong however. Alma is determined to make the relationship work, even if she has to take extreme measures.

I saw _Phantom Thread_ as part of a trio. We began watching this Oscar nominated movie at staggered intervals. I, from the beginning. The second, a half hour in. Then her partner, just past the half-way point. But all of us came to the same reaction when we’d been watching for what seemed like days only to realise there was still 30 minutes left: Lying on the cold, dirty floor, begging for it to end.

Prepare for the most heterosexual thing I have ever said: We had to watch YouTube clips of Arnold Schwarzenegger movie-kills and then the whole original _Robocop_ as a palette cleanser after being forced to endure _Phantom Thread_. That’s not hyperbole either, it felt genuinely necessary so that’s what we did. I fear that we live in the world where something this pretentious is considered one of the best movies of the year.

_Final rating:★ – Of no value. Avoid at all costs._
Probably the best, least biased documentary criticism of Jordan Peterson made thus far

Anybody who thinks that this is just a female Superbad would be wrong, because it’s so much more than that. This is a film about friendship, and in some respects it feels more of the same compared to other coming-of-age films, but it delivers past that expectation with the help of Olivia Wilde’s excellent direction and the strength of Kaitlyn Dever and Beanie Feldstein. This is a film about friendship, but it’s also about a celebration of youth and empowerment of one’s own life. Dever and Feldstein are perfection but Billie Lourd is hilarious as well! But seriously, it’s also the hardest i’ve laughed in a long time and it’ll sadly probably get snubbed come awards season but this deserves Best Picture and i will love and cherish this movie until I die.
‘Booksmart’ is a fun, hilarious, and instantly and infinitely quotable film, making it a must-see for all ages and sexes. But most importantly, it’s exciting. Olivia Wilde has here proven herself to be a fantastic new voice in filmmaking, and she’s brought along screenwriters Susanna Fogel, Emily Halpern, Sarah Haskins and Katie Silberman for the ride. One can only imagine the excellence they’ll produce in the future and if they keep discovering new onscreen talent as well, there’s no stopping them. Girl power!

I like the leads but I **love** the supporting cast.

_Booksmart_ had me dubious. In the past couple of years beforehand, I’d heard great (and virtually identical) things about three female-led coming of age films: _Edge of Seventeen, Lady Bird,_ and _Eighth Grade_. In my opinion, one of these movies is great, one of these movies is good, and one of these movies is… not. So when I started hearing the exact same chatter around _Booksmart_, I was not certain what I should expect. Now, having seen it, it might actually be the best of the bunch. Certainly the funniest. Might well end up being my only non-Action movie of the year I go in for a rewatch on.

_Final rating:★★★½ – I really liked it. Would strongly recommend you give it your time._
If you enjoy reading my Spoiler-Free reviews, please follow my blog 🙂

Last year, I missed A Vigilante from Olivia Wilde, and I still haven’t watched it. Over time, I gradually lost interest, and I might have even forgotten about its existence. However, after watching Booksmart (which arrived late as hell to my country), I’m definitely watching the former soon. I was never that big of a fan of the young-adult, high-school, coming-of-age type of movies, but some of my favorite films of the last few years (Lady Bird, The Edge of Seventeen) actually belong to that genre. Why am I enjoying these low-budget flicks more than others?

Well, it can’t be a coincidence that every director that tackled these movies is either tremendously talented or shows incredible potential. In addition to this, all of these films (all directed by a woman) address a teenage story starring one or more female main characters. Now, hang on to your horses: no, these movies aren’t good because they’re made by women. No, the story isn’t captivating or entertaining due to the protagonists being women. These films are great simply because they’re made by filmmakers who know what to do with a camera and a story, besides starring brilliant actors… It just happens that all of these persons are women.

I’m not part of any movement or hate group. I don’t care about politics. I hate people that let their reviews be influenced by external themes, ultimately being unfair to the movie. That said, I have no doubts that these films are better because they have women producing, directing, writing, and starring in it. Booksmart is extremely funny while being as realistic as possible at the same time. Tonally, Wilde seamlessly balances her movie, flowing through each plot point with no major missteps. Although, some occasional detours unnecessarily stretch the runtime, namely a few subplots that didn’t really offer anything worth the time, besides being a bit exaggerated.

Nevertheless, the main storyline never loses its focus. Amy and Molly smoothly drive the screenplay through entertaining moments as well as grounded, pretty dramatic scenes. Beanie Feldstein and Kaitlyn Dever are spectacular! I can’t remember the last time I watched such a phenomenal duo of protagonists, especially when it comes to young actors/actresses. They have impeccable chemistry, and it’s quite noticeable that some sequences are undoubtedly improvised. They also deliver one of the best one-on-one verbal confrontations ever put to screen. Just one long take with both giving their all. Outstanding acting, fantastic filmmaking.

With these two actresses carrying the story forward, every single scene is elevated. The comedy bits are amusing, but the romantic drama surrounding them is addressed in such a genuine manner. Kudos to each and every screenwriter that worked on the scripts. To Olivia Wilde, I leave my wish of seeing her in more features. She has her own style, and she definitely has a lot to say, so I can’t wait for her next films. Booksmart carries enough sweet messages that will surely connect with audiences all over the world, whether you’re young, old, men or women. It still carries some cliches from the genre (not trusting your BFF, even though it’s clear you’re wrong), but it’s the play on stereotypes (not everyone seems what they show) that wins at the end.

All in all, Olivia Wilde places her name on the list of directors to watch closely for the next few years. Booksmart is a wonderful addition to the coming-of-age genre, one that possesses two astonishing protagonists. Beanie Feldstein and Kaitlyn Dever might become superstars in the future if they continue to display such remarkable performances. With the help of a great supporting cast as well, Wilde shows the exciting and entertaining side of graduating high-school, but also all of the real dramas that teenagers go through, with no restraints. It’s a character-driven story, and Amy and Molly are two persons that we should learn a lot from. It’s one of the best movies of the genre, even though it still contains some of its famous cliches and a few subplots that don’t quite come together. Definitely, give it a watch!

Rating: B+
I know, I know. I should love this.

And yes, the good parts are really good. But the bad parts are REALLY bad. I guess I’ll round up to 3 stars, just to be fair.
I found this movie to be enjoyable and engaging in most ways. The script is intelligent except for one flaw, the young leads do a great job, and there is a sort of group chemistry amongst the student body. And it is witty and fun.

Now, as someone who is over 60, I was a little saddened to find that the writers had killed off the world’s older generation and populated the movie with only the young. And I was disappointed that hardly anyone in the movie could make it through a sentence without dropping an f-bomb. Of course I am inured to the use of this catch-all word in film and cable tv, but when everyone, even two intelligent women who gave up fun while they studied their way through high school, can only manage using the f-word as adjectives, adverbs, verbs, etc., it makes you shudder for all the elite universities about to receive this influx of new talent.

What makes _Booksmart_ so one of a kind is that it finally gives an honest voice to the smart girl. Not a pretentious voice, but a voice that feels genuine and sincere. It is an ode to the magical feeling of being young, of friendship, and of taking steps toward becoming the person you were destined to be. How to grow up and not lose childhood friendships when things don’t turn out the way you expected them to.
_Booksmart_ is a hilarious coming of age story that has a surprising amount of heart. I loved everything about this film, from the raunchy jokes to the real existential fears of moving on to college. The cast is amazing, both Feldstein and Kaitlyn Dever do an excellent job and the supporting cast is top notch. The comedy in this movie is done so right, the lines are delivered in realistic ways and the jokes hit quite often, my fiancé and I were completely cracking up at certain sections. All in all, I had a incredible time with this film!

**Score:** _88%_
**Verdict:** _Excellent_

The Predator 2018 Online Subtitrat in Romana

The Predator Online Subtitrat in Romana – [1080p]

The Predator

cap : The Predator
a slobozi  : 2018-09-05
arhivare : 107 Minutes
gen : Science Fiction, Action, Adventure, Comedy, Horror

A complete waste of opportunity. The film smacks of studio interference and bad decisions. It starts off decent enough but at the halfway point it turns into a shambles and it does feel as if a lot of it ended up on the cutting room floor. The music was very intrusive and some scenes were so badly lit you had no idea who was just killed or even what killed them.

Some knowing nods to the earlier Predator films was a nice touch and it was good they didn’t skimp on the gore and violence but all in all it’s a bad movie. Stick to Predator and Predators.
My mind was racing as I watched _The Predator_ in the cinema tonight. I’d heard virtually nothing good about it so my anxious brain kicked into overdrive the whole time the film was going on. As a result of that, I almost feel like I experienced three movies in that theatre. First, obviously the movie on the screen. Secondly, the awesome movie I was theorising could unfurl at the result of each new sequence and plot point, but that sadly never did. And thirdly, the inexcusably awful and franchise-ruining movie that I feared it was about to take a hard left turn into at any minute, and thankfully never did.

And that’s really my experience on _The Predator_ overall, and the reason for a stalemate “2.5 outta 5” review: It wasn’t as good as it should have been, it wasn’t as bad as it could have been. Unfortunately, when the movie I’m writing in my head alongside watching it is better than what’s actually on screen, when you take into account that I’m an unimaginative, talentless hack, really doesn’t cut it for a sequel to _Predator_, one of of only five movies I’ve ever given a perfect rating to.

The best parts of _The Predator_ are when there is an eponymous Predator on screen. So you might think, “Oh it’s not a good movie, but it’s a good _Predator_ movie”, and fair enough a conclusion to draw, but no. Part of the problem is, this movie really could have been pulled off with any aliens at all. Take out the Yautja and replace them with… I dunno, the blue skinned pogo-stick people of Planet Hurfadump, and it can still play out functionally the same. See, although I enjoyed watching the Predators do their thing, there was really nothing beyond cosmetic similarities that made them the Predators we’ve seen in every movie preceding this one.

I think possibly part of the reason for that is that every other movie with a Predator in it has been an Action Horror movie (albeit Action Horror with ever-increasing Sci-Fi elements from film to film) whereas _The Predator_ is an Action Comedy, just one with some gore. Now I don’t think that taking it that route was necessarily and… abysmal failure, let’s say, but was Action Comedy the **best** way to take the _Predator_ franchise? I think it’s pretty clear that the answer is no.

Ironic that that direction is being taken by Shane Black, the man who has a history with _Predator_ purely because the crew of the first film were determined to have him to work on the script, which he refused. Now here we are more 30 years later and Shane Black finally **has** put his name on a Predator movie, and it’s not even good.

Fuck. At least it’s better than _AvP: Requiem_!
I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I was inclined to step out of the theater to check if I was sitting in the right room. But there it was, definitely a Predator, but obviously totally misplaced in a ridiculous movie – ridiculous story, ridiculous characters, ridiculous acting, ridiculous everything.

I was so upset. One of the diamonds of a movie genre thrown in the dirt and made fun of. If you want to see how that’s done, watch this one.

A total waste of money – on production side and on cinema visitor’s side.
Its just not good. The first predator created atmosphere; you were being hunted. The only “Predator” film to deliver another dose of this was Predators.
This film falls completely short of its predecessors (yes, all of them), but does leave you with a strong impression that this was a cash grab to squeeze any life out of a franchise that surpassed its EOL a long time ago.
OK, I have to disagree with the other reviewers, to date, of this movie. I totally enjoyed this movie and gave it an 8. Once you figured it out, I thought the story line made complete sense. I loved all the new characters, and thought the camaraderie of the main military characters was great and rather realistic. I don’t know about the other reviewers, but I did serve in the U. S. Army and found the character interplay highly realistic. I am disappointed with the interplay between the “good guys” and our government; however, these days you come to expect that. I don’t believe that part would be realistic, but I don’t think it distracted that much from the movie, and everyone came together in the end…to, of course, save humanity! Which, of course, it did otherwise we all wouldn’t be here anymore…right? Good movie! Go see it and then decide for yourself, but I thought it was definitely worth seeing, so much so I even bought the blu-ray!
A crushing disappointment.

The hopes were high for this latest Predator rebirth, not because Shane Black starred in the great first Predator film, so therefore he surely must care about the project? But because he’s an excellent writer and director. Shane Black can count Lethal Weapon(S), The Last Boy Scout and The Long Kiss Goodnight on his CV, he was the man who put Iron Man back on track after the sag of part 2. Plus he is the creator of two of the best buddy buddy neo-noirs this millennium (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang/The Nice Guys), So how come The Predator stinks of lazy cash cow manure?

Plot in a nutshell sees the universe’s most lethal hunters unleashed on Earth due to the meddling of a soldiers kid and some nosey scientist types. The fate of mankind rests with a group of damaged ex-soldiers and a rather cheesed off female scientist.

We have a rehash mishmash of what we have seen before in Predator 87 and Predators 2010. A group dynamic fighting a seemingly invincible foe. The subsequent science aspects such as human DNA inference/reasoning etc never really add up to much, serving only for a bunch of standard actors shouting, swearing and spouting hopelessly weak jokes and series re-treads. When you think the pic is about to up a gear, get rivetingly dramatic, a poor slice of humour comes our way either by vocal spillage or visual drivel (puppy pet Predator dog, really?). There’s a bunch of plot threads that just dangle never to be pulled (PTSD/our hero’s family strife et al), and the Predators loose on Earth – with different agendas – are confusingly shifted about by a screenplay not sure where it wants to land.

Plus points? Well the cinematography is superb (Larry Fong), and you can’t fault this for action quotas, there’s plenty of it and it’s bloody (both red and green type). The score is the traditional one we had from Alan Silvestri back in the 87 film, in fact it hardly deviates from it and yet Henry Jackman gets the credit. Of course some of the jokes will work for some folk (I would be lying if I said a Whoopi Goldberg gag didn’t make me laugh), but the terror has gone, these Predators are no longer scary creatures. This reeks of a troubled production going hand in hand with a cash cow that not only narratively adds up to nothing really, but of a franchise death knell. Shame. 3.5/10
**”Long story short”**

Unlike the clueless reviewer (on a different website) who I quoted in the headline, I will not proceed to write 5 paragraphs of meaningless drivel about a movie I hate.

Usually all of the AvP movies, Alien, Predator and the cross overs are at least a solid 3.5 stars. Of course the original Alien trilogy as well as Predator 1, 2 and even Predators stand out as being very original. The difference between the originals and the spin-offs is clearly the tone they set. In this movie we get a comic book style presented, with by no means bad CGI (dogs looked more real than in Predators for example), a secret research conspiracy, and charismatic heroes getting slaughtered (or not, no spoilers). Just like in the graphic novels, the pace is neck breaking. The ending felt almost rushed, to introduce the new Predator Killer Weapon. It is understandable how regular movie goers are put off by the constant over-stimulation, but I would not want it any other way. The action is over the top, definitely. But there was great attention to detail how the action scenes played out exactly, as opposed to lesser action films in which a flurry of cuts leaves a thinking audience just confused about what just happened.

Sure, I would have loved a darker vibe throughout the film too, especially in the beginning the score reminded a little of a Disney orchestra playing. But “The Predator” was a hell of a ride and deserves a special place among the spin-offs.

I am migrating my reviews from a different site which has become simply garbage. TMDB looks awesome and I look forward to be a part of it.
